Coin history - The Three Kingdoms A.D. 220-280

Wei. The Wei restored the Wu Zhu of the Han. They probably still used the Wu Zhu of the Eastern Han, but possibly also minted their own. There is, however, no way of distinguishing the Wu Zhus cast during the Wei.

Shu. The Shu had coins of four denominations: 5, 100, 500 and 1000 zhu.

Wu. The Wu had denominations of 5, 100, 500, 1000, 2000 and 5000.

We can’t determine the circumstances of all the coins of this period due to a lack of documentation.

It is uncertain if the Da Quan Wu Zhu, the Tai Ping Yi Bai and Ding Ping Yi Bai were minted during the Shu or the Wu. Peng talks about these coins in the chapter about Three Kingdoms (p. 124-133), but it is advisable to read newer research about these coins.
